24th - 30th October
There is a lack of participation in women and girl's handball across Scotland. In the 2019/20 season we recorded appox. 30% of our SGB and Club Membership as women or girls. We appreciate this is significantly underrepresentative of the scottish women & girls population, therefore we are on a strategic mission to change this.
Therefore, we stepped up our involvement with the Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week (24th to 30th October) this year! We feel the key to increasing our participation with women & girls is promoting the game and the opportunities it provides.
IF SHE CAN'T SEE IT, SHE CAN'T BE IT
Over the course of the week we profiled prominent female figures in the Scottish Handball community. We wanted to share their experiences and showcase what can be achieved as a female handball player in scotland whilst also opening up a dialogue regarding views on current barriers to women participating in the sport. As we are still in the development stages for women's handball we also looked to our friends in Europe to demonstrate the epic vision we have for women's handball in Scotland!
Finally, we also ran a social media competitions to spread awareness of the sport and to encourage schools to give handball a shot! We had some fantastic entries!!!
